Qigong

In this four-session workshop we will dive into the practice of qigong. Meeting once a week for four weeks, we will explore qigong theory, meditations, energy, and exercises. The practices presented will include physical movement, breath work, and directed mental intent, offering a wide range of benefits.

Week 1: theory, meditations, energy awareness, meridian flow

Week 2: Ba Duan Jin

Week 3: Ba Duan Jin continued

Week 4:  Four Ways qigong

Ba Duan Jin is a centuries old qigong practice that combines physical movements with breath work and energetic intent. It translates as “8 silk brocades,” perhaps because it cultivates a smooth, silken flow in our qi and therefore in our bodies. Four Ways Qigong also combines body, breath, and mind, while offering different movements and intents from Ba Duan Jin, allowing a variety of qigong explorations.

Who is it for: Everyone! No experience is needed, and all movements can be adjusted for individual levels of fitness or flexibility. This class will be perfect if you do not have a current practice or aren’t in Tai Chi or Stretch, Strengthen, Flow classes. It is also a great way for Tai Chi members to enhance their practice, as Tai Chi and qigong are intermingled. SSF participants will see how much qigong actually runs through that class, so learning more about qigong will illuminate a lot of the SSF flow.

Requirements: none. However, the course works best if you commit to carving out at least 10 minutes or so a day during the course to practice. Qigong is something that happens inside you, and only in the intuitive, experiential space does it come alive.

Dates: Mondays, 6-7pm. April 6, 13, 20, 27

Cost: $80. Cash or check payable to Cedar Wind Center brought to the first class. Class includes supportive handouts and videos.
